8 March 2018, Meeting Minutes

Meeting called to order at 4:30 pm by Janine.
3. Approval of meeting Agenda: Motion to approve by Gina, 2nd by Pat; approval unanimous.
4. Approval of meeting minutes: Motion to approve by Janine, 2nd by Cole, approval unanimous.

6. Presentations:
None
7. Old Business:
a. 2018 Presentations
- Gina to reach out to contact at Link to plan a date when they could come present on their
objectives and initiatives. Plan for a 20-minute presentation with 10 minutes for questions.
- Scott County Sherriff to present in April regarding lake safety.
- Southern Valley Alliance presentation in July.
- May/June meeting dates are open for presentations.
b. Prom Letter
- Address substance abuse in the graduation letter rather than the prom letter.
- Add Southern Valley Alliance resource number to contact to the prom letter.
- Suggest parents have a conversation with their child(ren) about smart choices.
- Suggest staying with a buddy.
- Mark will make suggested updates and send it out to the group for review.
- The prom letter will be finalized at the March meeting.
c. Outreach, Farmers and VFM Market participation
- VFW Market - Mark secured 7/26 from 3:30 – 7:00 for us
- Farmers Market – Karla sent an application to sign up for this. We can communication when
we want to do it in June or July.
- Business Expo – August 2 – we need to get in touch with the Chamber to see about
participating in this.
- Fall Community Fest – September 17 – we will participate as we have in the past years.
8. New Business:
a. Graduation Letter
- Focus on alcohol/substance abuse in this letter.
- Include a reminder about social host ordinance.
9. Other Business
a. Youth member
- Cole can start to identify his replacement now with the ideal timeframe of someone being
named as the next student advisory member to take place in May 2018.
- It would be great if Cole and the new member could attend at least one meeting together
before Cole leaves for college.
- Cole can forward names of interested people to Chief Elliott for the application process.
10. Announcements:
a. Fire Department Updates
None
b. Police Department updates
- Body cameras are all running – going well.
- 2/3 of the squad cars have cameras in them.
- Cold weather shooting practice was finished this week.
- Three themes will be added in to planned training based on legislative action.
o Crisis intervention/ mental illness.
o Conflict mediation.
o Recognizing and valuing community diversity.
- Officers complete 16 hours of training in these three areas every license period (every 3 years)
plus another 48 hours of training per year.
- Hiring is in progress:
o CSO
o Records Clerk
o New police office starting in the middle of March.
- Toward Zero Death is coming up again in April with a focus on distracted driving.
