11 January 2018, Meeting Minutes
Attending: Janine Alcorn, Gina Gertner, Pat Dougherty, Woody Spitzmueller, Tracy Miller, Cole
Greenlee, PD Chief Mark Elliott
Absentee: Mike McGuire, FD Chief Rick Steinhaus
Meeting called to order at 4:12 pm by Janine.
3. Approval of meeting Agenda: Motion to approve by Woody, 2nd by Pat; approval unanimous.
4. Approval of meeting minutes: Motion to approve by Tracy, 2nd by Woody, approval unanimous.

6. Presentations:
None
7. Old Business:
a. 2018 Calendar
- Activities to add to the calendar:
o Discuss the Prom Letter at the February meeting.
o Discuss the graduation letter at the March meeting.
Mark to send previous versions to the committee.
o Southern Valley Alliance presentation to our group in July.
o MN Student Survey presentation. This will be suggested to the school district.
Mark to talk to Kristi Mussman about the timing of this.
o Review/discuss bylaws in November.
o 13/21 Redo project.
Mark to talk to Katie Miner about the timing of when it would be good to talk to
our group about identified safety issues that may arise from this work.
o Link presentation.
Gina is trying to connect with someone from this agency to discuss their initiatives
and if they would be available to come speak to the committee.
o Mark to share crime stats from previous year during the August meeting.
We request to hear fire stats from Rick at that time as well.
- 2018 Projects
o Table tents at the high school and local restaurants to promote various TZD initiatives.
8. New Business:
a. 2018 liaison assignments, city calendar
- Mark McGuire will be the city liaison for PLCSAC.
- The city calendar is being changed.
o City Council meetings will take place on the 1st and 3rd Monday at 7:00 pm.
o Work study meeting will be at 5:00 on those days.
o Some months this schedule doesn’t work due to holidays.
b. Committee bylaws updated
- Changes made to the bylaws to be consistent with the other committee bylaws.
- In some places the verbiage has been deleted because it is covered by another document.

10. Announcements:
a. Fire Department Updates
None
b. Police Department updates
- Mark discussed the preliminary call numbers for 2017.
o 18% increase in calls for service from compared to 2016.
This is a significant jump.
Equates to the work of 4.6 officers.
o 66% increase in calls for service in the last 5 years.
o The increase in calls for service decreases the amount of proactive work the department
can do.
- Posting for a new Community Service Officer.
o March/April start timeframe.
o This officer would be the one to do vacation home checks.
- Texting 911 exists for the county.
