September 14, 2017 Meeting Minutes
Attending: Janine Alcorn, Pat Dougherty, Linda Ringstad, PD Chief Mark Elliott, Fire Chief Rick

Meeting called to order at 4:00 pm by Linda.
3. Approval of meeting Agenda: Motion to approve by Janine, 2nd by Pat; approval unanimous.
4. Approval of meeting minutes: Defer to October meeting.
5. No hearings scheduled.
6. Presentation – none.
7. Old Business:
a. Police Body Worn Cameras update – Policy approved by Council. Next steps are to acquire equipment
bids, select vendor and go back to Council for purchase approval.
b. Safety Camp recap – 95 children 6-8 years old, sold out in three days, at Lakefront Park now, good
weather, new staff, several thank you cards, no limit on how many times child may attend.
c. Fall Community Fest – Mark will gather handouts, Janine volunteered to help and Mark will check with
others to check availability.
8. New Business
a. October is Domestic Violence Prevention Month – the City Council proclamation/presentation is
scheduled for October 2nd. Chief Elliot will ask Betsy or Gina to speak on behalf of Committee and
Stephany to receive plaque for Southern Valley Alliance. Plan is to put Proclamation and information
on table at City Hall for month of October.
b. October is Fire Prevention Month - the City Council proclamation/presentation is scheduled for
October 2nd. Chief Steinhaus reported that the school presentations will begin the week of September
18th and most of the presentations are done by Fireman Eric Zimmerman.
c. Chemical Health Week – typically in November, but can be done anytime during the year. Will check
with schools and work with the Middle Schools 3-part series presentation schedule to consider having
mental health/chemical health be focus of 2nd presentation. Mark will discuss with Kathy, the Middle
Schools Police liaison officer. The 1st presentation is 7:00 on October 20th at PLHS. All parents (all
ages of children) are welcome to attend, the topic is Internet Safety and Sexting.
d. New Member Recruitment – one application has been received and closed on September 12, however
application is still available on the Website. Janine will approach the PTC’s for possible members.
Committee needs a minimum of 5 members and applicants must live in Prior Lake.
9. Other Business – none.
10. Announcements:
a. New officer is being hired and will be assigned to the Drug Task Force starting in October. This
position is being co-funded by SMSC.
b. Halloween – candy will be given out from 10-23:00 at City Hall departments and 27 stops in downtown
businesses on October 31st.
c. 21 & 13 Project, Moving Forward – survey on City website. Joint project between City, Scott County
and the MN Department of Transportation.
d. Community Survey done in June by the City. Had Town Hall meeting to discuss the Survey and the
next step will be the 2040 Vision.
e. Budget and staffing will be discussed at City Council meeting on September 18th. May cut one officer
and the Community Service officer from what was requested.
f. Fire Department updates –
Roy “Smiley” Johnson, longtime fire fighter passed away. Services at Ballard-Sunder. 6:00 Fire
Department presentation
Fire Department will hold Open House in October.
Many new fire fighters will be hired this fall, as 13 will be retired/moving by June of 2018.
Qualifications are: anchored here and physical agility. Current pay is $12.25 per hour and $7,500
pension accrued per year.
