Meeting called to order at 4:08 pm by Janine.
3. Approval of meeting Agenda: Motion to approve by Gina, 2nd by Tracy; approval unanimous.
4. Approval of April meeting minutes: Motion to approve by Tracy, 2nd by Janine, approval unanimous.
5. Hearings:
None
6. Presentations:
a. Megan Voronyak – The Link
- Education and help spreading knowledge about the work they do is great.
- The Link serves over 2,000 people per year.
- Passageways helps with youth juvenile justice system, homelessness and sexual exploitation.
- In 2011 the Safe Harbor law was passed.
o According to the Minnesota Department of Health website with the passing of the
Safe Harbor law:
▪ “For the first time, Minnesota youth who engage in prostitution are viewed
as victims and survivors, not criminals. They will be treated with dignity
and respect, and directed to supportive services, and shelter and housing
that meet their needs and recognize their right to make their own choices.”
- Grant money has been spent to train police on how to deal with sexual exploitation cases.
- Minnesota is ranked number 13 when it comes to the number of sexually exploited individuals.
- Demographics of sexual exploited victims – 13 to 17.
- Work is being done to include curriculum in health classes on sexual exploitation.
o There is no identified timeframe on when this will begin.
- Passageways keeps space open for additional people to join the program but that open space is
likely being held for someone that is slated to arrive at some point in the near future.
- The PLCSAC suggested that the educational flyers either be available at the Prior Lake Police
Department table at Community Fest or request a table of their own at the event.
- The Prior Lake Rotary is meeting to see how they can get involved.
7. Old Business:
a. Farmers Market date
- The group should determine which date they want to participate in this.
- They decided to table this initiative for now.
b. Harvest Market date
- This event is held every Thursday from 4:00 – 7:00.
- The city has a table every week at the event.
- The PLCSAC will be there on July 26th.
o Janine, Gina and Tracy will be there.
- Mark will get The Link flyer for this.
8. New Business:
a. Lakefront Days Business Expo table, August 2
a. The group decided not to move forward with being present at this event.
9. Other Business
- None
10. Announcements:
a. Fire Department Updates
- They are busy this time of year.
- Rick goes on every medical call during the day.
- There have been a lot of illegal burnings this year.
- The fire department received new personal air units. They will be ready to use by the end of
June.
- A new firetruck is being built and will be in ready in the Nov/Dec timeframe.
- 9 new firemen started on May 1.
- 4 firemen will be retiring by the end of August.
b. Police Department updates
- No updates
