HomeMy WebLinkAboutCSAC Meeting Minutes 09 13 2018Community Safety Advisory Committee 13 September 2018, Meeting Minutes Attending: Pat Dougherty, Janine Alcorn ,Woody Spitzmueller, Tracy Miller, Chief Elliot Absentee: Gina Gertner Meeting called to order at 4:05 pm by Janine. 3. Approval of meeting Agenda: Motion to approve by Woody, 2nd by Pat; approval unanimous. 4. Meeting minutes for August were not available at the meeting. 5. No hearings scheduled. 6. Presentation - none 7. Old Business: A. The annual PD chicken BBQ at the VFW was well attended. Event held their for about 30 years so it runs very smoothly. Lots of volunteer help, and the food was very good as usual. B, Community Fest will be supported by PD on 17 September at the PLS High School. CSAC members are welcome to participate. C. CSAC losing 3 members this fall, at this point only 1 new application received. Chief Elliot has a couple other interested parties, and will contact Rotary to appeal to the youth ‘engagement’ group for a youth member. Must be PL resident D. Domestic Violence Prevention month in October. CSAC will support proclamation by mayor, and presentations by Stephanie and Gina. E. Chief Elliot noted the committee will report accomplishments and objectives to the city council at the workshop on 20 November at city hall. Gina will present for the committee. E. Discussed the ‘pop-up marina’ matter where residents rent slip spaces in violation of cities zoning ordinance. CSAC recommended that city establish a task force to review this issue. MOTION: City to establish a task force to review the pop up marina issue. By; Woody Spitzmueller, 2nd by Janine Alcorn: unanimous approval. 8. New Business A November is Chemical Health awareness month. CSAC will again support a proclamation by the mayor. City should engage and support in efforts to control epidemic of opioid use/abuse. Janine and Chief Elliot also mentioned that vaping among youth is growing issue. 9. Other Business None 10. Announcements: A. FD will hold an open house at Fire Station #2 on October 11, 2018. CSAC committee meeting will be held at the station prior to the open house. FS #2 is near intersection of Cty 21 and Cty 42. B. A new police officer was hired last week, will be sworn in at the council meeting on 17 September. He is named Bo Johnson and is a PLSHS graduate. Two more candidates for PD hires are going through background checks. C. Chief Elliot is acting as the department Lt due to retirement. Also will need to appoint a new Sargent once a permanent Lt is appointed. Meeting Adjourned 5:10P, Motion Woody, 2nd Pat. Unanimous
