HomeMy WebLinkAboutCSAC Meeting Minutes 08 09 2018Community Safety Advisory Committee 9 August 2018, Meeting Minutes Attending: Pat Dougherty, Janine Alcorn ,Woody Spitzmueller, Chief Steinhaus, Chief Elliot, Councilor McGuire Absentee: Gina Gertner, Tracy Miller Meeting called to order at 4:05 pm by Janine. 3. Approval of meeting Agenda: Motion to approve by Woody, 2nd by Pat; approval unanimous. 4. Approval of July meeting minutes: Motion to approve by Woody, 2nd by Pat; approval unanimous 5. No hearings scheduled. 6. Presentation - none 7. Old Business: Chief Steinhaus provided Fire Department update as he had to depart meeting early. PLFD responding to more than 50 service calls per month (busy). Rick mentioned that October is Fire Prevention Month. Open houre at Fire Station #2 on October 11. CSAC will setup a information table for the event. The October CSAC meeting will be held at the station at 4PM, with Open House to follow at 5:30P. PLFD will be visiting elementary schools during the week of 8-12 October. Chief Steinhaus mentioned a fire at McKenna Crossing that was contained without major damage. A, The July Harvest Market at the VFW attracted over 300 folks, with about 20 visiting the CSAC table. B, Night to Unite in the city was success with 25 neighborhood parties visited by FD and PD. Biggest event was again in the Wilds. PD remains short staff so events stretched department thin. C. PD and Recreation will staff a city table at the September Community Fest at PLS High School on Monday 17 September. CSAC committee members encouraged to participate. D. Chief Elliot noted the committee will report accomplishments and objectives to the city council at the workshop on 20 November at city hall. Gina will present for the committee. E. Continue to seek new committee members as 3 current members hit term limits. Chief Elliot will contact the HS principal to seek a replacement student representative. F. The committee will not prepare a parent letter for new students this year. G. Chief Elliot noted the PD is seriously short staff due to injuries and retirement. CSAC members encouraged to speak at the council meeting (public forum) is support of funding additional officer(s). 8. New Business A October is Domestic Violence awareness month. CSAC will again support a proclamation by the mayor. 9. Other Business A. Chief Elliot mentioned dog’s in the city must be licensed. B. Flashing yellow arrow’s now at the Hwy 13 and Boudins Street intersection. C. Group foster care home coming to the city. 10. Announcements: None Meeting Adjourned 5:30P, Motion Pat, 2nd Janine.
