HomeMy WebLinkAbout02 24 2019 MinutesCommunity Safety Advisory Committee 24 February 2019, Meeting Minutes Attending: Chief Booker Hodges, Warren Erickson, Tonya Fitzgerald (phone), Isabel Lundquist, Paul Godlewski, Tracy Miller, Woody Spitzmueller Absentee: Megan Boyle, Karen Bubb Meeting called to order at 4:00 pm by Chief Hodges. 3. Approval of meeting Agenda: Motion by Tracy/2nd by Paul, unanimous approval 4. Approval of January meeting minutes: Motion by Paul/2nd by Woody, unanimous approval 5. No hearings scheduled. 6. Presentation – new committee members introduced themselves. 7. Old Business: a) Chief Hodges provided a tour of the PL Police Station. a. Committee toured the building and visited areas closed to public. b) Chief Hodges noted that the PD will sponsor a public meeting relating to sexting/internet safety at city hall on 26 February 2019. The meeting is open to the public. c) Chief Hodges view of CSAC objectives for 2019: (REVIEW) a. Support department needs for new officers and CSOs/ b. Education relating to Senior Fraud issues… false marketing, deceptive practices. c. Encourage residents to stay in touch with elderly relatives. d. Develop stratagies for after dark safe communities e. Expand use of social media, improve community outreach f. Committee to lead the National Night Out g. Develop program to collect school supplies for needy youth. d) Deferred election of committee officers until March as several members are absent. e) Discussed Prom/Graduation letter. Izzy will review for discussion at next meeting. f) Chief Hodges discussed the Rotary Music Fest and impact of summer road construction. g) Chief Hodges noted the department has hired 4 new officers who will be trained by current staff with their completion planned by June. Chief also discussed the department wellness program involving physical and mental coaching; incentives for progress by staff. Chief Hodges stated that the PL PD is still viewed as a very desirable place to work. h) Another officer will be sworn in by June; this will bring the PD up to full staff (29). i) Chief Hodges reported that traffic stops were down for recent reporting period. 8.
