Chairman Tracy called the meeting to order at 4:03 p.m.
Woody made a motion to approve the agenda, Karen seconded, and all approved.
Tonya made a motion to approve the previous month’s minutes, Tracy seconded, and all
approved.
At this time, our new Chief of Police, Steve Frazer was introduced and he gave us his personal
background. Members of the committee then introduced themselves.
Old Business:
1) Brad stated that the Senior Fraud stickers were ordered. He presented various
brochures that his dept. provides. The committee will view them and decide if any
would be useful for our future endeavors.
2) The former VFW Market has been relocated to the Tractor Supply Store. It was decided
that the committee would man a table with info. for various concerns including senior
fraud. It is open from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Members will take shifts at the table. Club Prior
was suggested to visit for the same purpose, on the 20th from 6:00-8:00 as the dance
they were having always had a large attendance. Karen would try to get a large version
of our sticker to display at these events.
New Business:
1) Visitor Betsy Jader spoke to the group about Code Red. She lives in the Wilds
neighborhood and is concerned about the items that are made public to the residents
when it is a local concern. Chief Frazer and Commander Cragoe assured her that the
Scott Co. Sheriff’s office is in charge of the set up, and that a radius is established
around the event, and those signed up would get the alert IF the call warranted it. He
suggested that since the Prior Lake site has been ready for sign-ups since June 6, to let
the Wilds community know to do so. Tonya suggested that Nite to Unite would be a
great time for group sign-up, and Steve offered to attend the meeting.
2) The BCA Overdose Mapping App was discussed. Prior Lake uses it to help find a rash of
incidents. They also carry and have used Narcan.
3) Brad presented the various pamphlets to display in our working with the public on
safety. We will review them after the meeting and decide which are most useful.
4) Car break-ins and burglaries were discussed. Since 10-13 have happened in Prior Lake, --
please warn friends and neighbors to lock cars. Police have had calls to thank them for
the reminders hung on their doors in prevention of this.
5) An update on the middle school student that was arrested on taking photos of students
in inappropriate areas was requested. No news at this time.
Other Business:
1) Karen requested personal info. of the committee members, assuring it would stay
confidential. A paper was sent around for each member to enter their info.
2) Woody announced that a permit was acquired for the fireworks show to be held at
Watzel’s Beach. The money has been raised.
3) Tracy asked Woody about the boats slips being rented on private property. He stated
that if the city knows, they will issue letters to the owners. A follow-up tour of offenders
will be done again this year.
4) Tracy asked if Brad has found the source for the calendar of events that the committee
should follow. He will continue to search. She stated that October was Domestic
Violence Month so she asked for someone from the Southern Valley Alliance for
Battered Women organization, to talk to the committee.
5) Should we have a safety booth set up for Lakefront Days? The committee did not feel
this was an appropriate venue.
6) Nite to Unite is Aug.6, and Tonya voiced her frustration with the Prior Lake web site for
not having it available for sign- ups. It is hard to schedule visits without the numbers and
locations.
7) Warren wanted to know how the new Hands Free Law would be enforced. Chief
Franzen stated that tickets would be issued, but the money would go to the state.
8) “Tip a Cop” event would be happening at Charlie’s on Prior on Tues, the 25th from 5:00-
8:00. All proceeds will go to Special Olympics.
9) It was encouraged to find Prior Lake info. on the Next Door app.
Next meeting will be July 11, 2019 4:00-5:30
Woody made a motion to adjourn, Tonya seconded. All approved.
Tracy called the meeting adjourned at 5:35 pm
