CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT
MEETING DATE: December 09, 2025
PREPARED BY: Philip Ryan, Public Works Supervisor-Utilities
Christine Watson, Public Works Supervisor-Administration
PRESENTED BY: Nick Monserud, Public Works Director/City Engineer
AGENDA ITEM: Resolution Awarding the Contract for the Shady Beach Lift Station
Pump Replacement
RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Adopt a resolution awarding the contract for the Shady Beach lift station pump replacement.
BACKGROUND:
The city operates 41 sanitary lift stations that manage the wastewater conveyance into the Met
Council system for treatment at the Shakopee wastewater treatment plant. These lift stations are
inspected weekly, cleaned at least twice annually, and inspected annually by a contracted
professional in an effort to maximize the useful life of the components. The pumps and other
control components are recommended for rehabilitation every 15-20 years.
The Shady Beach lift station is 51 years old and the pumps were last replaced in 2004. This lift
station serves 40-50 homes. The existing guide rail system, pump base elbows, and access hatch
are compatible with the replacement pumps and shall be reused.
Staff solicited a quote from Electric Pump to complete this work. Electric Pump is the proprietary
vendor for Flygt pumps which are in 39 of the 41 lift stations. Electric Pump is familiar with the
city’s wastewater infrastructure and equipment, and has provided the equipment and service for
our lift station rehabilitation projects for the past several years. It is the city’s desire to maintain
uniformity in the pumps among all 41 lift stations. Having consistent systems, parts, and
operational parameters in all the lift stations provides efficiency and effectiveness for future
maintenance.
Electric Pump submitted a quote in the amount of $41,685 to complete the proposed work. Staff
recommend awarding a contract to Electric Pump in the amount of $41,685.
FINANCIAL IMPACT:
The Sewer CIP includes funding for annual lift station maintenance and has adequate funding
for this project in 2026.
ALTERNATIVES:
1. Motion and second as part of the consent agenda to adopt a resolution awarding the
contract for the Shady Beach lift station pump replacement.
2. Motion and second to remove this item from the consent agenda for additional
discussion.
