Turnout Gear
RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Adopt a resolution authorizing the purchase of eight sets of fire turnout gear.
BACKGROUND:
The 2026 Fire Department budget includes funding for the purchase of up to ten sets of turnout
gear. The Fire Department is in need of eight sets of gear to outfit one new full time firefighter and
seven new part time firefighters.
Turnout coats, pants, and boots are used as personal protective equipment and are worn by all
firefighters when inside or outside a hazardous environment. The cost of each set is $4,831.
FINANCIAL IMPACT:
The cost of eight sets of gear including shipping is $38,773.00 and will be purchased from Fire
Equipment Specialties (FES).
ALTERNATIVES:
1. Motion and second as part of the consent agenda to approve the resolution for the
purchase of turn out gear for the Prior Lake Fire Department.
2. Motion and second to remove this item from the consent agenda for additional
discussion.

RESOLUTION 26-
A RESOLUTION APPROVING THE PURCHASE OF TURNOUT GEAR FOR THE PRIOR
LAKE FIRE DEPARTMENT
Motion By: Second By:
WHEREAS, the Prior Lake Fire Department needs to purchase 8 new sets of turnout coats and
pants as personal protective equipment; and
WHEREAS, turnout coats and pants are worn by all firefighters when inside and outside a
hazardous environment; and
WHEREAS, the Prior Lake Fire Department has budgeted for this purchase in their 2026
budget.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF PRIOR LAKE,
MINNESOTA as follows: The Mayor and City Manager are hereby authorized to purchase the
noted equipment with the budgeted funds from 101-42200.00-52055.00, Uniforms/Personal
Protective Equipment.
