Corridor RatiO!!
Corridors serving an occupant load of 30 or more in an M occupancy, shall have a rating of I-hour
without a sprinkler system and no rating is required when sprinklered. Table 1017.1
Locks and Latches
Egress doors shall be readily operable from the egress side without the use of a key or any special
knowledge or effort.
Exception 2: The main door in Group B, F, M, and S areas is permitted to be equipped with key
Locking devices from the egress side provided:
2.1 The locking device is readily distinguishable as locked.
2.2 A readily visible durable sign is posted on the egress side stating THIS DOOR
TO REMAIN UNLOCKED WHEN BUILDING IS OCCUPIED.

At least 50% but not less than one entrance to the building shall comply with accessible route provisions.
Landin2s at doors
There shall be a floor or landing on each side of a door and shall be at the same elevation.
Landings shall have a width not less than the width of the doorway. The minimum length in the
direction of travel shall be 44 inches.
Stair Requirements
1. The riser height shall not be less than 4 inches or greater than 7 inches. The minimum tread depth is
11 inches.
2. The minimum width of a stairway is 36 inches, 44 if occupant load is greater than 50.
3. Provide a handrail on both sides of stairway 34 to 38 inches above the nosing. Handrails shall return
to a wall, guard or walking surface. Handrail shall extend horizontally at least 12 inches beyond the
top riser and continue to slope for the depth of one tread beyond the bottom riser.
4. Provide a guard rail where drop off is greater than 30 inches.
5. Minimum height of guard rail is 42 inches.
6. Open guard rails in F occupancies shall not permit a sphere of 21 inches to pass through.
7. Minimum headroom clearance is 80 inches.
8. Enclosed usable space under a stairs is required to be protected as required for I-hour construction.
9. A flight of stairs shall not have a vertical rise greater than 12 feet between floor levels or landings.
Li2ht & Ventilation
Every space intended for human occupancy shall be provided with natural light. Artificial light shall be
provided that is adequate to provide an average illumination of 10 foot candles at 30 inches above the
floor.
Natural ventilation if not provided by doors or windows shall be provided mechanically.

1341.0720, Subpart 1. ADAAG 7.2(1):
Assistance counters. If counters or windows are
provided for sales or distribution of goods or services
or to provide information or registration to the general
public, five percent, but not less than one, of each type
of counter or window shall have a portion of the main
counter that is at least 36 inches (915 mm) in length
with a maximum height of 36 inches (915 mm) above
the floor. Accessible counters or windows shall be:
A. provided in a prominent location;
B. located on an accessible route; and
C. evenly dispersed throughout the building or
facility.
EXCEPTION 1: Drive-up windows.
EXCEPTION 2: The maximum counter height
on accessible conveyor-type check-out aisles
shall not exceed 38 inches (965 mm) above the
finished floor. The top of the lip shall not exceed

1341.0720, Subpart 2. Voice communication
in solid partitions or security glazing. In public
facilities where counters or teller windows have solid
partitions or security glazing to separate personnel
from the public, at least one of each type shall provide
a method to facilitate voice communication. The
methods may include, but are not limited to, grilles,
slats, talk-through baffles, intercoms, or telephone
handset devices. The method of communication shall
be accessible to both individuals who use wheelchairs
and individuals who have difficulty bending or
stooping. If provided for public use, at least one
telephone communication device shall be equipped
with volume controls complying with part 1341.0478,
subpart 5. Hand-operable communications devices, jf

1. Separate permits are required for the alarm system.
2. The 2002 of NFP A 13 shall be the standard.
3. All materials shall be tested and installed per the listing.
4. All valves controlling water flow shall be monitored and secured including the PIV.
5. It is the responsibility of the fire sprinkler contractor to flush all main and branch lines.
6. Provide frost protection for all portions of the wet system.
7. Field verify all sprinkler head and device locations.
8. Secure all valves against tampering. All valves in public areas shall be locked and protected.
9. Provide a water resistant system plan at the each sprinkler riser to include the following information.
a. Total site plan
b. All valves
c. Riser locations
d. Areas served by individual risers
e. All main and auxiliary drains
f. Location of inspector's test
g. Location of PIV valve.
10. For inspections call (952) 447-9850 give the project building permit number (07-971)
11. Seal all penetrations in rated walls in an approved manor. Provide fire caulk information for approval.
12. Provide protection for concealed combustible areas.

1 . Separate permits are required for the alarm system .
2 . The 2002 of NFPA 13 , shall be the standard.
3 . All materials shall be tested and installed per the listing.
4. All valves controlling water flow shall be monitored and secured including the PIV.
5 . It is the responsibility of the fire sprinkler contractor to flush all main and branch lines .
6 . Provide frost protection for all portions of the wet system.
7 . Field verify all sprinkler head and device locations .
8 . Secure all valves against tampering. All valves in public areas shall be locked and protected.
9 . Provide a water resistant system plan at the each sprinkler riser to include the following information .
a. Total site plan
b . All valves
c . Riser locations
d. Areas served by individual risers
e . All main and auxiliary drains
f. Location of inspector ' s test
g. Location of PIV valve .
10. For inspections call (952) 447 -9850 give the project building permit number (07-971 )
11 . Seal all penetrations in rated walls in an approved manor. Provide fire caulk information for approval .
12 . Provide protection for concealed combustible areas .
