Adjourn Meeting AGND700 PARKS ADVISORY COMMITTEE MINUTES JUNE 12, 2000 The Parks Advisory Committee meeting was called to order by Ron Ceminsky at 7:45 p.m. on Monday, June 12, 2000. Members present were Ron Ceminsky, Thea Fluhrer, Tom Schutz, and Kathy Smith. Sandi Fleck, Pat Heaney, and Chad Storley were absent. Councilmember Jim Ericson was absent. Staff members present were Paul Hokeness, Director of Parks and Recreation, Al Friedges, Parks Supervisor, Chris Esser, Recreation Supervisor and Nancy McGill, Parks and Recreation Secretary. TOM SCHUTZ MADE A MOTION TO DELAY APPROVING THE MINUTES FROM THE MAY 8, 2000 MEETING TO THE JULY MEETING BECAUSE OF MEMBERS ABSENT. THEA SECONDED MOTION. MOTION CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY. Dave Moran and Craig Gontarek were unable to attend meeting to give the regional trail presentation STAFF REPORTS- PAUL HOKENESS, PARKS & RECREATION D/RECTOR Playground Equipment- Committee needs to work on a matrix. Members agreed to conduct a special meeting on Tuesday, June 27 at 5:30 to work on the selection process for playground equipment and felt that a couple of the council members and neighbors should also be present. Deerfield Park Development - Members looked at a map of the trail system. The developer is Wensmann Homes. The primary park land will be around the pond. A portion of the dedication will be made in cash to help cover cost of the trail development. There will also be connecting trails to the Ponds Athletic Complex. Wensmann 1st Edition/Regional Trail - This development will be 50 acres of which 5 acres will be dedicated park land. Lakefront Days - The Ice Cream Social will be held on Thursday evening, August 3 at 6:30 p.m. with the Windjammers Community Band performing at 7:00 p.m. The Prior Lake Open Golf tournament, classic car cruise, entertainment and a hog roast will be held on Friday. Concessions will be open. The Fun Run will be held on Saturday along with the parade, concessions and entertainment. The water ski show will be held on Sunday. Extra activities will include a photo contest with the theme being "Play'in the Park" and craft show. Someone mentioned that we should contact Susan Smoyer from the Shepherd of the Lake Church to get a list of their contacts for the craft show. Lakefront Park Bandshell - The Lion's Club have donated the first $10,000 for the band shell at Lakefront Park. Approximate costs will include materials $28,000, labor $15,000, and finishing $5,000. (612) 447-4230 / Fax (612) 447-4245 AN EQUAL OPPORTLiNITY EMPLOYER STAFF REPORTS - AL FRIEDGES, PARKS SUPERVISOR Lakefront Park Progress - To date, the seeding is complete and the boardwalk is finished. The pavilion is being primed. The shelter is being refurbished with a new roof, restoring original color, water and sewer hookup and the installation of a drinking fountain. Thea indicated that the steps from Lakefront Park to the beach area need to be blocked off from below as people are using them. Al indicated that the turf is good and fields should be ready to be used in the Spring of 2001. Still need to work on getting signs installed. Busse Park Property Progress - The black dirt has been spread, the soccer fields are ready for seed, the curbs are in and the parking lot is ready for pavement. Maintenance plans to start with the irrigation shortly. The wetland areas will be seeded in-house. We will contract with a nursery to grow wildflower plugs. The fields will be available for use Fall, 2001. New Trail Construction - Currently writing specs and plans for Council approval for Crest Avenue, Glynwater, and Knob Hill. A basketball court will be installed at Willow park and paving will be installed behind the grandstand at Memorial Park. Maintenance plans to do the grubbing and grading in-house. Summer Projects - Playground equipment installation, trail maintenance, Lakefront Park shelter, finishing projects at Lakefront Park and landscaping on the Busse property. STAFF REPORTS - CHRIS ESSER, RECREATION SUPERVISOR July~August Wavelength Brochure - The brochure will be mailed to residents on Wednesday, June 22nd. Performers in the Park - The performances will take place most Thursday evenings at the Lakefront Park outdoor performing arts theater at 7:00 p.m. The Windjammers will be the first performers on Wednesday, June 15th. Water Ski Shows - The Prior Lake Ski Association will be holding their practices at Watzl's Beach on Wednesday evenings at 7:00 p.m. Some of the neighbors have objected to this usage. Dance Recital - There were four recitals this year, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, June 2-4 at the Lakeville Senior High School. We broke the attendance record by 225 people. OLD BUSINESS. None.
