(612) 447-4230 / Fax (612) 447-4245 AN EQUAL OPPORTUNITY EMPLOYER PARKS ADVISORY COMMITTEE MINUTES SEPTEMBER 11, 2000 The Parks Advisory Committee meeting was called to order by Ron Ceminsky at 6:05 p.m. on Monday, September 11, 2000. Members present were Ron Ceminsky, Thea Fluhrer, Pat Heaney, Kathy Smith, Tom Schutz, and Chad Storley. Sandi Fleck was absent. Councilmember Jim Ericson was absent. Staff members present were Bud Osmundson, Public Works Director, Sue Walsh, Assistant City Manager, Al Friedges, Parks Supervisor, and Nancy McGill, Parks and Recreation Secretary. Chris Esser, Recreation Supervisor was absent. Kellie Jaspersen and Bev Crawford were present as representatives from the Fish Point Park neighborhood.. The July 10 2000 minutes were reviewed. CHAD STORLEY MADE A MOTION TO ACCEPT THE MINUTES FROM THE JULY 10, 2000 MEETING.. KATHY SMITH SECONDED MOTION. MOTION CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY. Staff Reports: Lakefront Park Band Shelter Bids - Cannon Construction bid $51,084.00 and will be the contractor for this project. Sue Walsh recommends that a storage shed be build behind the band shelter. A report will be presented at the next council meeting. Bituminous Trails- Prior Lake Blacktop was awarded the bid in the amount of $64,447.50. This amount will be used to cover the paving expense. $95,000.00 was budgeted, and the balance of funds will be used for trail completion projects. Trails slated for trail construction include Glynwater, Knob Hill and Crest Avenue. Al reported that they hope to complete both phases of the Glynwater trails and connect the two with a board walk. Approval to finish the Deerfield/Wilderness trails this year, and connect the two will go to the September 18th council meeting. Ron Ceminsky suggested a tour of the new projects for the October P.A.C. meeting. Presentations for the playground equipment by various vendors began at this time. The four vendors represented included Minnesota/Wisconsin Playground with Game Time, Flanagan Sales, !nc. with Little Tikes, E.F.A. with Landscape Structures, Inc., and Miracle Recreation of MN, Inc. Discussion and rating of the vendor equipment followed the presentations. The bids were then opened. E.F.A. did not submit an alternate bid. KATHY SMITH SECONDED-THE MOTION. MOTION CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY. Update on Park Naming and Revised Park Naming Policy - A copy of the policy was distributed. Discussion followed. The Busse park will be named Thomas Ryan Memorial Park. Recognition will also be given to Dennis Fitzgerald by naming the athletic fields at the new. park, Fitzgerald Fields. The Busse family will be recognized by naming the roadway into the park, Busse Boulevard. Park Fee Study Proposals- Bids were opened on September 5th. The bid from Ingram & Associates was $16,900.00 and Bonestroo was $14,707.00. The City Manager is in the process of reviewing the proposals and a final decision has not been made. Thea Fluhrer commented that there is a lot of traffic congestion into the Ponds Park and suggested that "Caution" and "Yield" signs be installed. Old Business. The Wild's development contract was discussed. New Business. Thea Fluhrer suggested that the Park Fee Study be included on the October P.A.C. agenda and would like Frank Boyles to be present to discuss his plans regarding this. MOTION BY KATHY SMITH TO ADJOURN THE MEETING AT 9:50 P.M. CHAD STORLEY SECONDED THE MOTION. MOTION CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY. The October P.A.C. meeting will be held on Monday, October 9, 2000 beginning at 5:30 p.m. with a tour of Deerfield, Glynwater and Knob Hill.
