From: Heather Doll [mailto:hdoll@mchsi.com] Sent: Sunday, December 28, 2008 5:17 PM To: Prior Lake Police Dept Subject: Franklin Trail Dear Traffic/Driving/Accidents subcommittee, Please, something has to be done with the traffic and driving speeds on Franklin Trail; obviously drivers do not acknowledge the posted speed limit of 30 mph. Franklin Trial is a very busy street that receives over 5,300 cars a day, where an average residential street receives 200-300. There are no crosswalks, stop signs between 21 and 160th, or any traffic calming measures. I am very concerned for the safety of our residents and children that have to cross the street and wait for busses. I have witnessed on several “if not daily” occasions that drivers do not stop for school buses with flashing red lights, passing on the right hand side, and passing to oncoming traffic, not to mention the extreme speeding issue in access of 40, 50 or more mph. When I drive down Franklin Trail going 30 mph many vehicles will tail me, honk, scream obscenities and even follow me home. I am very surprised I have not been hit yet. When we purchased our house here we were told that it’s a busy street but we had no idea that it was a Freeway. I have been doing some research what other communities have done to ease traffic and speeding, below are some links. I plan on taking action in form of a petition and talking to the city council, any help from the Safety Committee would be greatly appreciated. Also; the PLPD does a good job by keeping an eye speeders and ticketing them, but we understand that they cannot be there around the clock. It’s really is good to see them out there as much as they can.
