HomeMy WebLinkAbout150421 LAC Minutes 1 4646 Dakota Street SE Prior Lake, MN 55372 LAKES ADVISORY COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES April 21, 2015 CALL TO ORDER: The April 21, 2015 regular meeting of the Lakes Advisory Committee (LAC) was called to order at 4:50 p.m. Present were Members Celski, Kallberg, Rech, Shower, Vice-Chair Streefland, and Chair Weninger, City Councilor Thompson, and City Water Resources Engineer Young. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: MOTION BY RECH, SECOND BY CELSKI, TO APPROVE THE MINUTES OF THE NOVEMBER 18, 2014 LAKES ADVISORY COMMITTEE MEETING. VOTE Celski Kallberg Rech Shower Streefland Weninger Aye Nay Abstain Absent The motion carried 6-0. HEARINGS: NONE OLD BUSINESS: 5a. Community Outreach Opportunities Young: Presented the staff report for the agenda item. Also provided an update on the status of the Clean Water Clean Up event scheduled for April 26th. Asked for members to volunteer to be liaisons to other organizations. Weninger: Provided an update as LAC’s liaison to the Spring Lake Association (SLA). The SLA recently held their annual meeting and had 75 attendees. Diane Lynch from the PLSLWD gave a presentation that was well-received. SLA is actively using its Facebook page and an email list to reach out to members. Shower: Stated that he will continue to represent the LAC as liaison to the Prior Lake Association. Young: Mentioned that there has been interest in storm drain stenciling projects. Encouraged those interested to contact him for more information on completing a project. April 21, 2015 Lakes Advisory Committee Minutes 2 Shower: Stated that he would get more information on the annual Dive the Lake event . He will coordinate with the Prior Lake Association and hopes to get others involved. Rech: Asked about the status of the upcoming carp tournament . Young: Stated that the carp tournament would be held at the Knotty Oar on May 30. Shower: Asked if more volunteers are needed for carp tournament. Weninger: Stated that the CAC is leading the effort and any volunteers can be scheduled through that group. Young: Mentioned that Lakefront Days planning would start soon at an upcoming workshop session. Outlined how the 2014 event was planned. Mentioned the possibility of having a booth at the 2015 fall community fest. Weninger: Stated that the fall community fest is a worthwhile event to attend for the LAC. Volunteers need to come up with more strategies to get information to attendees. Need to have more than one person at the booth. Streefland: Mentioned that the booths are split into sales booths and non -profits in different areas. Presentation item only; no vote was taken. NEW BUSINESS: NONE ANNOUNCEMENTS / CORRESPONDENCE Streefland: Brought a Lake Service Provider Training manual to demonstrate what the DNR requires of lake-related businesses. Weninger: Noted that the State requires businesses to pass an exam to be certified. Streefland: Recommended asking businesses for their certification before they perform lake - related work. The DNR lists Young: Provided an update on the Water Surface Use Management process. The City’s WSUM website will be updated to reflect the current status.
