HomeMy WebLinkAbout080995 MEMO TO: Paul Hokeness, Director of Parks and Recreation Bret Woodson, Recreation supervisor~~~ FROM: SUBJECT: P.A.C. Update for August 14, 1995 DATE: August 9, 1995 ..S.UMMER...A($illIMI'FIES We had a great summer full of activities this year. The weather cooperated for the most part this summer as only a couple of cancellations were necessary. Some of the highlights this summer included the following: Summer Playground Program - 292 participants, Tot Lot Program - 164 participants, Tennis Lessons - 95 participants, and two adult trips - 53 participants. The numbers were higher this year for our Summer Playground program and the Tot Lot program. These programs should continue to grow as the community keeps getting bigger. The last of our summer activities, Youth Day Camps, began last week and concludes this week out at Cleary Lake Regional Park. Once again we have full camps for each session. The other week long camp offered to area youth was a Theater <:::amp. This ran during the first week of August and attracted 20 participants who had the chance to "create a play" and present it to their parents. This was the third year this program was offered and it continues to fill up year after year. Next year, we may look at the possibility of offering two theater camps. In addition to the above mentioned programs, the Parks and Recreation Department also helped out with the Lakefront Day Festival held on August 5th. The summer playground leaders coordinated the childrens games before and after the parade. There were approximately 450 kids who participated in one or more of the games offered. 16200 Eagle Creek Ave., Prior Lake, Minnesota 55372-1714 / Ph. This summer has been quite a busy one for the beach staff. Parking revenue is above normal as is concession revenue due to the hot weather experienced this summer. Along with the "daily users" of the beach, many group picnics have been held out at the beaches. Some of the typical group users include: birthday parties, company picnics, family reunions, class reunions, and general family get togethers. .'.0. , '11""".'11'. '.(5..'''' '.B. ,.. """8.9.'. A new three year lease is being negotiated with Priordale Mall which would keep the program in its same location. The roof and air conditioning concerns have or will be taken care of prior to the start of the season. In addition, a new dance floor will be constructed in the studio to give the dancers and instructors a more suitable surface to dance. This particular floor consists of a multi-purpose vinyl floor covering that sits on a wood sub-floor. Our dance program director recommended the floor that is being installed. The nice thing about this particular floor is that it is portable. Therefor, if and when the program were to ever change locations, the floor could be taken with. .1t~."fj"IJ."..lI. ..CSWI1I".lmIES" .. .... ... .... ........ ... ...., ,...... -. . ... . . . ... ... -.... ........ ... ... . .. .. . . ,. ... .. . ..... .. . . .... .... ........ .. ... .... . ,.. ... .. . -.. .. . ...
