(612) 447-4230 / Fax (612) 447-4245 AN EQUAL OPPORTUNITY EMPLOYER PARKS ADVISORY COMMITTEE MINUTES APRIL 13, 1998 The Parks Advisory Committee meeting was called to order by Ron Ceminsky at 6:40 p.m. on Monday, April 13, 1998. Members present were Ron Ceminsky, Thea Fluhrer, Bob Rykken, and Tom Schutz. Kathy Smith and Pat Heaney were absent. Council representative Jim Petersen. Staff members present were Paul Hokeness, Director of Parks and Recreation, Chris Esser, Recreation Supervisor and Lisa Newling, Parks and Recreation Secretary . The minutes from the Monday, March 9, 1998 meeting were reviewed. THEA FLUHRER MADE A MOTION TO ACCEPT THE MONDAY, MARCH 9,1998 MINUTES. TOM SCHUTZ SECONDED THE MOTION. MOTION CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY. Ron asked for the Staff Reports. Lakefront Park Paul indicated that a lot of money has been saved by Al Friedges and his staff in the demolition of the building and hockey boards at Lakefront Park. .(oos Farm Paul stated that there has been no more discussion. A third appraisal has been Gompleted. Communitv Park Paul is still looking for property. We are currently doing an appraisal on a 95 acre parcel. DNR Grant Paul has applied for a grant for Lakefront Park. There was a field inspection today by the DNR representatives. Pro;ects Paul indicated that city received DNR Grant money in the amount of$38,000.00 for the Pond's Park. Security lights came in wrong color and that is why they are not up yet, otherwise field lights are ready. Playground equipment is currently being installed at Willows, Cardinal Ridge, and Boudins. Librarv/Resource Center Paul stated that soils test was good. Had only one minor problem by the Police Annex Building. Plans have changed slightly with the elimination of skylights, adding a basement for equipment necessary to run the facility, wood floors, and a more inviting entry way. Chris indicated that April 25th is 4-Your Park. He is working on donations from McDonalds, Subway, and Dominoes to give to the clean up groups. There have been 8 parks adopted. The dance recital will be held on May 16th at the Edina Community Center. There will be two shows at 1 :00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. Chris will be there the entire time. -, ':::hris updated the Committee on the Softball Leagues. There are 48 teams this year. They will be sending us $10,000.00 for the scoreboard at Memorial. This is a 5 year contract with an additional 5 year extension. There have been 2 applications for the Park Patrol Officers. Chris will be interviewing them soon. He is thinking about hiring both and working them on a rotating schedule. Chris is working on the Park/Building Reservation Policy. The summer brochure will be out on May 8th. New Business Paul asked the Committee if they wanted to change meeting nights so that the monthly meetings could be on cable T.V. Discussion occurred. Two committee members said that Mondays were the only nights they could meet. TOM SCHUTZ MADE A MOTION TO CONTINUE WITH MONDAY MEETINGS AND NOT TO HAVE THE PARKS ADVISORY COMMITTEE MEETINGS TELEVISED. BOB RYKKEN SECONDED. MOTION CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY. Paul indicate that there may be a change in the Park Dedication Fee. The current fee is $850.00 per building permit. This money is needed to develop and maintain new parks in new developments THEA FLUHRER MADE A MOTION TO ADJOURN THE MEETING. BOB RYKKEN SECONDED THE MOTION. MOTION CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY. The meeting was adjourned at 9:10 p.m. The next meeting will be held on Monday, May 11, 1998 at 6:30 p.m. at the Prior Lake Maintenance Center.
